CyberUnite is a collaborative cybersecurity research initiative focused on securing cyber-physical systems and critical infrastructure. Co-led by Professor Donna O’Shea of the University of Limerick’s School of Engineering and Dr. Kieran McLaughlin of Queen’s University Belfast’s Centre for Secure Information Technologies (CSIT), the project represents the first dedicated funding awarded by an Irish government agency to support cross-border collaborative research in cybersecurity. CyberUnite brings together expertise in artificial intelligence, systems security, and critical infrastructure protection to develop secure, trustworthy, and resilient solutions for modern cyber-physical environments, leveraging advanced threat detection, Zero Trust principles, and cyber-digital twin technologies to enhance system security and reliability.

Cyber-physical systems underpin critical infrastructure across energy, manufacturing, transport, and healthcare. As these systems become increasingly connected, they also become more vulnerable to cyber threats, system failures, and disruption. CyberUnite is developing advanced cybersecurity solutions to protect these environments, combining artificial intelligence, Zero Trust principles, and cyber-digital twin technologies. By strengthening the security, resilience, and trustworthiness of cyber-physical systems, the project aims to ensure reliable and safe operation in an increasingly digital world.
